Driving to Aomori City

Exit the base from the main gate and turn right at the second traffic light (City Hall intersection).
At the fourth traffic light.
Go straight through the first traffic light (across Main Street).
This is route 8. Follow it for 17.4 KM. Then turn left at the traffic light onto Route 394 and go over the bridge.
At .3 (three-tenths) of a KM turn right and go over another bridge.
Continue straight (on a winding road) for about 2 KM where you will come to the intersection with Route 4.
Go straight across Route 4 and you are on the Michinoku Toll Road.
After about 20KM, you will come to a rest area on the left and a toll gate.
Pay the ¥830 (at the time of this writing) and proceed for about another 10KM to a "T" intersection with a traffic light.

You are now on the outskirts of Aomori City. Continue with the below instructions to get to your destination

Downtown Aomori

Turn left at the T intersection drive straight down Route 44. When you come to the"Y" intersection, bear right.
Continue on a short way until you reach the traffic light at a multiple lane road. This is Route 4.
Turn left at the light and follow Route 4 for about 5 KM. You will cross a bridge over a small river and then go under a pedestrian overpass.
You are now entering with I consider Downtown Aomori.
After another 7 or 8 hundred meters, you will see a blue overhead sign for the train station and Ferry.
General Information:
- The August Nebuta festival route includes this portion of Route 4 as well as the shopping street that dead-ends into the train station. You will see spectator seating along the route.
- To get to the train station, follow the sign from Route 4. Turn right at the sign and then when you come to the next signs, be sure and stay in the left lane and make a tight left turn. Do not turn left from the right-hand lane and go over the bridge towards the ferry.
- The older Shopping Main Street as well as an outdoor market are near the train station.
- Be aware that there is limited parking in the downtown area.
