Aomori Prefecture is famous throughout Japan for its apples. If you travel to the western side of the prefecture you will see miles and miles of orchards along the road. However, the eastern portion of the prefecture has very few orchards. The exception is the Rokunohe Apple Orchard and its located only about 20 minutes out the POL gate. This family-owned business boasts over 6000 apple trees bearing 10 different varieties of apple.
You can visit the orchard between 20 September and November 20th each year. There is a fee of ¥500 for admission and you can take three apples with you when you leave. There is also a shop that offers apple products and treats for sale. In mid to late October you can go pumpkin shopping there also.
To get there, go out the POL gate and continue straight like you were going to Towada. After about km you will see the Fursato Train Station and shortly thereafter is an intersection with long narrow flags on poles stuck in the ground. Turn left here and continue for km. Turn left again and you are there.
