See the map
To get there, exit the base through the Main Gate and proceed to the second stop light and turn right. Follow this road which will wind around turns and up and down hills. You will eventually cross a bridge over the railroad tracks. You will go past the Misawa Train Station. This becomes Route 10. Continue along Rt 10 for about 20 minutes and you will arrive in Towada City. As you enter Towada City you will pass the Daiei Department Store on the left and cross railroad tracks. There will be a train station on your right and a canal on your left. Continue straight a little further until you come to a traffic light at the intersection of Route 4. There will be a yellow jeans store on the right.

Turn left onto Rt 4. Cross a bridge over the canal and proceed to the second traffic light. This will be the intersection with Route 102. Turn right onto 102 and proceed for about 20 minutes.

You will pass the entrance to Yakeyama Ski area and shortly after that you will see a caution light with a gas station on the right. Turn left here and proceed across the bridge. Follow this road through the Oirase Gorge until you reach the lake. This is a narrow, winding road that follows the path of the Oirase River.

Once you reach the far end of Oirase Gorge and arrive at the lake, you are in Nenokuchi town. KachTurn left as you arrive at the lake onto Rt 103 and continue on around the south side of Lake Towada. You will eventully pass a sign for Odata to the left (or Yasumiya to the right). Take the left fork and continue on to Odate.

Once in Odate, make a left onto Route 107. Stay on 107 until you see signs for Hachiro. Turn right onto Route 101 and follow the signs for Oga National Park (not Oga Hot Springs). 101 will turn into Rt 55. Stay on 55 until you see Route 59. Turn left onto 59 and follow the coast roads until you see the hotel down below. Make that right into the park.

You can rent a cabin for ¥3000 a night or use your own tent for ¥1000. You pay at the information desk in the hotel. The site sits on the Sea of Japan coast and has western style bathrooms, a shower, outdoor hotbaths, a playground, girlls and sinks. The area is very scenic and you can use the hotel's hotbath if you prefer it to the outdoor ones. There is an aquarium within walking distance. It is about 5 and a half hours from Misawa.
