RIKUCHU KAIGAN NATIONAL PARK

See the map
The Rikuchu Kaigan National Park runs for miles down the Pacific coast of Tohoku, beginning at Miyako Bay at the border of Aomori and Iwate prefectures. The area is known for its irregular coastline and rock formations/arches. There are many camping areas scattered along the coast and they range from primative to well-equipped.

To get there, make your way to Hachinohe and head south on Route 45 to past Kuji and Fudai. You know you are close when you see signs for Miyako which is about 100km from Misawa.

When you pass Miyako, start looking for green signs that point to park entrances. The best thing to do is turn at the first entrance and continue till you reach the ocean. You can turn left or right at this point and not get lost because the road begins and ends on Rt 45. This is a great place to start exploring. The scenery is outstanding, there is a boat ride and many campgrounds. Just find one that looks good.
